Thrilling journey down rabbit hole for Loughborough College Alice performance

A theatre audience was this week taken on a thrilling journey down the rabbit hole at Loughborough College for Alice, inspired by a classic tale published more than 150 years ago.

Captivated by Lewis Carroll’s popular story Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Performing Arts students had spent months creating a breathtaking physical theatre performance featuring a cast of well-known characters including the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit.

Loughborough College Creative Arts lead Emma Ledsam and Performing Arts tutor Melanie Potts enabled the 13 students to let their imaginations run wild to develop spectacular scenes of transformation and tea parties, caterpillars, Cheshire Cats and croquet.

“This is a story packed with so many exciting but also very familiar images and the cast rose to the challenge, working independently as a theatre company, to produce an outstanding interpretation which drew genuine gasps of surprise and admiration from the audience,” said Emma Ledsam.

“The students were all incredibly dedicated, scheduling extra rehearsals and also designing the lighting, choosing the music and arranging the staging and props.

“The result was strange and hilarious and a massive hit with everyone who saw it. It was impressive, a real triumph and we were very proud of everyone.

“We try to give our students as broad an experience as possible and with industry-level auditions, panto and physical theatre just some of the skills so far covered we are very excited about our forthcoming Shakespeare and variety performances, not to mention our live radio play.”

The Loughborough College Alice cast were: Kathryn Meneely, Lizzie Hinds, Holly Baird, Katie Grimley, Sharna Morris, Leah Vanmali, Kayleigh Dennis, Beccie-Mae Hales, Marika Leite, Derri Bailey, Mary Brewin, Rachel Colquhoun and Tandee-Claire Pegler
