Multinational manufacturing giant snaps up Loughborough College graduate

Luke Trotman says there is no doubt his degree course with Loughborough College helped him secure a coveted position with
multinational manufacturing giant Procter and Gamble.

The 22 year old has been snapped up by the US-based company which was started by two British business partners more than a century ago and is not only behind globally recognized brands including Gillette, Olay and Braun but has also reported annual sales of more than $80 billion dollars.

Luke, who recently graduated from Loughborough College with First Class Honours in his BSc in Sport Science and Management, said: “I have been told there were thousands of applicants and only a handful of positions at Procter and Gamble so I was thrilled to be offered one of them - but I can’t stress enough how much the strong enterprise element in my course helped me progress from getting an interview to being successful and now even to being able to confidently deliver in my role.

“It was a challenge to take on an entrepreneurial role at College, working to create a successful start-up and everything that entails alongside the demands of my final degree year – but that real-world experience was absolutely key.

“Taking the step from academic study into a tough, competitive environment is a challenge but I had had experience of facing pressures, being creative, finding solutions, working in a team, time management … and that was great preparation.

“Now it is really paying dividends. I am only in week two at Procter and Gamble and could be feeling overwhelmed but instead I am able to bring into play all the enterprise skills I picked up to make the most of this fantastic opportunity and really enjoy it.

“My degree course certainly opened doors for me and now I am in a great position to give this my best shot.”

“We extremely proud of Luke’s success and he is a role model to all our students,” added Iqbal Ullah, Lecturer and Course Manager for the Business Management degree at Loughborough College.

“Luke recognised the value of the entrepreneurship skills and knowledge he was picking up as part of his course and how they would help increase his employability and his potential future earnings, as well as helping in a practical business environment.

“Then Luke took that and demonstrated an incredibly high level of dedication and energy. The number of times he and the team he led were at college into the evening practicing and perfecting every element of their start-up was an absolute pleasure to see.”
