Loughborough College’s Remembrance Service

Posted: 10th November 2022 - 3:45pm

On Friday 11th November, Loughborough College will honour members of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Students, staff and alumni will gather from 10.30am in the Quadrangle to pay their respects as part of the College’s Remembrance Day event.

The commemoration service, commencing at 10.45am, will be conducted by Deacon Chris Stevens from the University Chaplaincy team, followed by the recital of poems and readings from students and honourable guests including Professor Robert Allison CBE, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, before bugler Georgina Dove, alumni of Loughborough College’s Public Services programme, sounds the Last Post.

After those in attendance observe two minutes silence, wreaths will be laid in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Tim Turner, Curriculum Manager of Public Services, said: “Remembrance Day is when we recognise the sacrifice of the many on behalf of us all who fought in conflicts past and present all over the world.”

“I hope many staff and students will join us as we pay our respects to all those who laid down their lives for our freedoms.”

As an inclusive college, we recognise that people may not share the same views and may not want to participate, however we ask that all members of the college to respect those that do.
